- Conducted by a male sonographer, not a doctor, the echocardiogram involves a skilled professional known as a sonographer.
Clothing and Positioning:
- Prepare to undress to the waist and wear an open-front gown.
- Lie on a couch positioned on your left side for the duration of the test.
Chaperone Option:
- If desired, bring a friend or relative as a chaperone. CardioLabs can also provide one upon request.
Monitoring Equipment:
- Stickers will be affixed to your chest, connected to a machine to monitor your heart rate during the test.
Test Execution:
- The room will be dimmed for the procedure.
- An ultrasound probe, covered with a small amount of gel, will be gently moved across your chest to capture images from various angles – center of your chest, beneath the left breast, beneath the rib cage, and to the base of your neck.
- The process ensures a comprehensive recording of your heart's condition.
Audio and Duration:
- Throughout the echocardiogram, you'll hear sounds from the machine, representing blood flow through your heart.
- The entire procedure typically takes around 30minutes.
Modesty Assurance:

Keep in mind that while the sonographer can perform the test, they won't provide result interpretations – questions regarding results may need to be addressed during a follow-up with your doctor.
